We were honoured to end 2017 and start 2018 with a couple of key awards and lots of great news and media love.
It all started in October when our main man Jose Pereira became a finalist in the 2017 Ethnic Business Awards. More than 400 entries were whittled down to 12 finalists in three different categories, with Jose one of four finalists in the Small Business Category.
“It was an honour just to be a finalist,” Jose says. “I never imagined I would receive this type of recognition.”

We were winners again at the annual Australian Pork ham awards in November. It’s our fourth year picking up an award for the quality of our Christmas ham, and we couldn’t be more pleased. This time we picked up a silver medal in NSW for our traditional bone-in ham.
Indeed our Christmas ham production is going from strength to strength, and for the first time ever we sold out of our traditional bone-in ham and our Bundawarrah bred free range easy carve ham in the week before Christmas. Sales of our artisan boneless ham also skyrocketed in 2017.
For 2018, Jose is already working on a new style of Christmas ham. Stay tuned for more exciting details later in the year!

Channel Nine news gave us the final word on what it takes to have a great Christmas ham. Their annual wrap-up of supermarket hams, and the battle to have Australia’s cheapest ham, ended with a key quote from Jose about the search for the best Christmas ham as the centerpiece of your family lunch or dinner.
The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food section also showed us some love, declaring Jose a “top bloke” and including our traditional bone-in ham as one of the best to buy in Sydney for Christmas.

And now that we’re over the Christmas rush, it’s time to settle into another year of producing great smallgoods for our valued customers.
Our good friend, 2GB presenter Luke Grant, paid us a visit in-store before Christmas, and he got Jose on the phone recently to talk smallgoods and all things Sunshine Meats.
