SUNSHINE MEATS WINS TOP HAM HONOURS
Australian ham is the quintessential Christmas centrepiece, and Sunshine Meats makes some of the country’s best ham. For the third year in a row we have won first place in NSW for best boneless Christmas ham, with a silver medal in the national prize.
More than 150 entries were received in the 2016 Australian Ham Awards, held as part of Australian Pork Limited’s Australian Ham Week to celebrate the best 100 per cent Australian ham and launch the Christmas ham season. The hams were assessed on a range of criteria including appearance, texture, aroma and taste.
Sunshine Meats director and smallgoods maker Joe Pereira says the awards are recognition of our attention to detail and quality product. “These awards recognise the best Australian ham and we’re so proud to have been named first in NSW,” he says. “And three years in a row – what a great feeling. Our hams not only taste great and look great, but they also support our local farmers. The good news is you can find the Aussie hams by looking for the pink square PorkMark logo.”
Not all hams sold in Australia are made from home-grown pork, but Sunshine Meats uses only Australian pork and bred-free range pork for our maple-infused hams. Our range includes traditional bone-in ham, boneless ham and ham portions, and bred-free range easycarve ham.
Sunshine Meats has previously taken out both the state and national prizes in 2014 for boneless ham and in 2015 for traditional bone-in ham.
Our maple-infused double smoked ham is available for tasting every Monday-Saturday in the lead-up to Christmas at the Charcuterie Room @ Sunshine Meats. Our deli/café is open from 8am-4pm Monday-Friday and 8am-3pm Saturdays in the lead-up to Christmas (closed December 24). Christmas ham orders can be placed until December 15, with stock available until December 23.
